Our Inspiration
Every dog owner knows the look. You unclip the leash at the trailhead and your dog turns to face the mountain like it's been waiting its whole life for permission. Birdie has that look permanently. She also has zero follow-through, because four seconds later she's on her back in the snow, wiggling like that was the plan all along.
Her name was always a joke waiting to happen. Birdie. Free Bird. The reality is Scree Bird — she'd genuinely leave you for a ridgeline, then get psychologically destroyed by a single marmot who refused to be caught.
Scree is that field of broken stone near the top of a climb - where the trail gets steep, the footing turns to gravel, and people start wondering whose idea this was. Birdie doesn't hesitate. Mostly because she saw a chipmunk.
So we named the brand after the two things that are true at once: a dog named Birdie, and the high broken ground she'd never come down from (until dinner). Hence the slogan she earned without trying
Gone Hiking. Be Back Never.
She means it. She also means "be back the second someone opens a bag of chips." Both can be true. She's complicated.
Scree Bird is apparel for people who feel the same pull - the ones who'd rather be up where the rock is loose than down where it's comfortable, and who fully accept they might faceplant on the descent and laugh about it. We don't take the mountain too seriously, and we definitely don't take ourselves too seriously. Birdie set that tone. She's never once been embarrassed in her life, and we're trying to learn from her.
She's not the mascot. She's the whole point.
